Eleanor Morgan
Daughter of Maria and John Henry Morgan

Maria, the third daughter of David and Elizabeth was b1838 and married John Henry Morgan in 1862 in Cooma.

The relationship between these two was very much frowned on by Maria's parents and they made the decision to send her away to Sydney to reside with friends. Undeterred, John Henry very quickly followed her, took her for a buggy ride out to Watson's Bay where he proceeded to threaten to throw himself over The Gap if she refused to marry him. Maria agreed and her father David disowned her as a result.

John Henry Morgan was a trained counter jumper, having spent 7 years as an apprentice in London and managed a business in Cooma before moving to Bombala where he had purchased the Commercial Hotel in 1875, he sold this in 1878 and purchasedd the Victoria Store from H. Whyte.

In 1864 John Henry was admitted to the Order of Freemasons, in 1870 he was one of the Charter Members for the Grand United Order of Oddfellows.

Maria and Henry's daughter Eleanor was to later take over the family business due to her father's failing eyesight. She rebuilt the business and continued to run it for at least another 40 years without missing a day. She had attended a private school in Sydney and her brother Trevour attended Fort Street School in Sydney.
