The “Nimmitybelle” Driscolls  were natives of Bantry Bay and Skibbereen, County Cork. Many of their leading men were prominent in the army of James 11 in Ireland distinguishing themselves at the battle of Ondara in 1707. O’Driscoll’s Castle stands on a headland called Coosadoona, where the famed Irish Pirate Patrick O’Driscoll could see promising cargos coming over the trade route. Cork was one of the main centres of the Irish rebellion of 1795. Several Driscoll brothers took part in the Rebellion, later escaping to France. Daniel  Driscoll (1789-1849) arrived in Sydney in 1815 as a political convict. After being pardoned  Daniel had property at  Braidwood, the first licensed “Hotel” at Chakola, property at Eucumbene and Nimitybelle, “Summer Hill” station. Timothy (1794-1864) arrived in Sydney on the "Moffat" 31/5/1841, also had property at Nimitybelle. Timothy’s son Daniel (1822-1857) arrived in Australia on the  "Susan" 25/3/1841. Daniel married Ellen Bartley (1832-1915) (County Clare) at Nimitybelle in 1850. Daniel and Ellen had four children. Three were born at “Curry Flat"

Sarah Driscoll (1852-1924) married Angus McDonald (1845-1914) and lived at “Tomgroggin”, Sarah and Angus had nine children, two married. Anne McDonald married John Jardine, “Curry Flat”. Sarah McDonald married Alfred Ireland, “Erindale”.

John Driscoll (1853-1914) 6ft. 6ins. tall was a builder. John built the homestead at “Mt Emerald” and many other buildings in the Nimitybelle district.

Mary (1654-1935) married George True in 1892, Mary was a teacher at the first Public School at Berridale in 1883, then Nimitybelle, then at Glen Bog Public School in 1890.

Daniel Driscoll (1858-1938) born at “Sunny Brook”, married Isabella McDonald (1859-1913) of the “Tea Gardens”, Holts Flat at St Patricks Catholic Church, Cooma 30/9/1878. Daniel and Isabella had six children:

Daniel (1879-1960) married Joanna Buckley (1885-1940) Daniel had property at Lismore and Kyogle.

Alfred (1881-1907) died of injuries received accidently from a fall off a wagonette on the Cooma Road.

John (1884-1955) married Edith Agnes Lewis (1888-1960) John had property at Lismore, then a furniture store at Summer Hill.

James (1887-1944) married Margaret May Rankin (1891-1962) at Bombala. James had property at Nimmitabel, then moved to Liverpool, where he had property at Prestons. James also had a very successful Taxi business at Liverpool.

Edward (1889-1889).

 Isabella (1901-1950) married Jeremiah John Buckley (1904-1969) at Nimmitabel. They lived their married life at “Mt Emerald”.  Isabella and Jeremiah had four children.

Patrick married Patricia McDonald.

Timothy (1932-1977) married Esther James.

Bernie married Valerie Bales.

Isabel married Barry Rayner.  For more details on these families see “Buckley Book”.

Daniel Driscoll (1858-1938) at the age of 17 years on the 5/8/1875 purchased through the “Australian Joint Stock Bank” the property “Mt Emerald”, he later owned the property “Mill Post”. Daniel had a dairy at “Mt Emerald” also a dairy at “Sunny Brook”.  He was on the Board of the local Butter Factory on the Kybeyan road, and the Nimitybelle Show.

Ellen Driscoll (Bartley) after the death of her husband Daniel, took up a run at “Sunny Brook”. She later married John O’Neill (Tipperary) they had two daughters Misses Ellen and Norah O’Neill and three sons Patrick, Michael and Thomas. Thomas married Catherine Kerwin, their family Jack, Alice (Sr Leonard), Amy, Floris, Thomas (Tommy) O’Neill of “Sunny Brook”.

Ellen Driscoll when she lived in a log cabin at “Curry Flat”, seeing Bushrangers rounding up horses on the flat, calling the children into the cabin, locking the door, getting the shot gun, watching the bushrangers from the window as the horses were driven away.
