Mrs Sarah Smith of Middlingbank died on Saturday last at the advanced age of 87 years and four months after an illness of four months, following injuries the result of a fall, when she sustained a broken leg. She was the eldest of the family of the late Mr & Mrs Daniel Smith of Middlingbank.
The deceased was born at Spring Creek, Kelton Plains and lived there for a short while, then lived about two miles from the old home and afterwards removed to Middlingbank where she has since resided,
She married William Smith, eldest son of the late Mr & Mrs Thomas Smith of England. She lived a quiet life. Her husband pre-deceased her 34 years ago. Deceased us survived by three sons, William of Gundagai, John and Thomas of Middlingbank; there are seven daughters, Mrs John O’Dwyer of Middlingbank, Mrs P Joyce of Queensland, Mrs M O’Keefe of Sydney, Mrs G Shooks of Berridale and Misses Annie Jane and Alice of Middlingbank. Her two brothers are Daniel of Berry and Joseph of Wyndham and sisters Mrs J A Broadhead of Cooma, Mrs John McGregor of Jindabyne, Mrs Jas McGregor of Berridale, Mrs Woollett of Batemans Bay, Mrs Fanny Pendergast of Sydney. There are 25 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
The funeral took place on Monday at the Church of England Cemetery Gegedzerick, the Reverend H Brown officiating. The pallbearers were Messrs Stanley O’Dwyer, Gordon, Percy, Claude and William Smith and Jas Kennedy. Mack; Lizzie and Donald and family; George, Emmie and family; Jim, Olive and family; all at Murlinbung; Caroline and family; Mr & Mrs A W Mould and family; Jane, Jim and family; Gordon, Edith and family; William, Charlotte and family and Jock, Sarah and family.
