Marrinumbla Station 1858
RUTHERFORD, born in Scotland, came to Australia in 1856. In 1858 he arrived
at Marrinumbla Station, Buckley's Crossing then the property of his Uncle.
He worked at Buckley's Crossing as a carpenter for about sixteen years, and
then went away for some years. Returning he opened a general store at
Buckley's Crossing, where for three years he occupied the position of Post
Master. He ultimately succeeded to his Uncle's property of Minto, near
Bibbenluke in the Bombala District.

On web page....http://www.cooma.nsw.gov.au/monaropioneers/nimmitabel/pioneers/thistletona.htm
in the section on John Rutherford, mention is made of...
In 1883 Mr. Rutherford married at Newtown, Isabella, third surviving
daughter of Mr. G. Murdock, of Cundle Plains, Manning River.
I have been working on the genealogy of my family and have a fairly good
mapping of MURDOCH family in Manning/Taree/Wingham area up to circa 1900, as
one of my wife's great, great grandfathers was George
Murdoch of Cundle Plains.
Isabella was born at Bungay, near Wingham.....
10401/1857 MURDOCH ISABELLA GEORGE ANN BUNGAY BUNGAY
She married Alexander Oliver...
2493/1878 OLIVER ALEXANDER MURDOCH ISABELLA BOMBALA
... and had two children by him.
10217/1879 OLIVER WILLIAM THOMAS ALEXANDER ISABELLA BOMBALA
21504/1882 OLIVER JOHN J ALEXANDER ISABELLA BOMBALA
I don't know what happened to Alexander but I suppose he died circa 1882.
There are no apparent NSW birth or death records for him!
I notice that "Oliver" is a family name that is mentioned elsewhere on the
Monaro Pioneers web site! For me this is somewhat interesting as Isabella's
13839/1859 MURDOCH CHRISTINA GEORGE AGNES A WINGHAM
...married William Cumming Oliver...
4786/1882 OLIVER WILLIAM CUMMING MURDOCH CHRISTINA WINGHAM
and had 4 children by him in the Bombala district.
Anyway, John and Isabella married with in a year or so of Alexander
disappearing, presumably having come to know each other in the Bombala
district through the Oliver connections. Why they were married in Newtown
is a small mystery!

They went on to have 6 children between 1884 and 1892.
