Gilbert Bullivant Warren – child of  Gilbert Warren and Ann Greathead was born c 1797 at Horsley Down , England .

 

At the age of 22, Gilbert Bullivant Warren was tried for Life on the 28 October 1818 at the London Gaol.  His Trade or Calling is listed as Cheese Monger/Dairyman.

 

He is described as having brown hair, blue eyes with a speck on the left eye, he stood 5 ‘ 5 1/4" with a dark sallow complexion.

 

On the 8 May 1819 , Gilbert departed England aboard the Grenada (1) which arrived in Australia on the 21 October 1819 .

 

From the Colonial Secretaries Letters (October 30 1819 to April 19 1820) it is noted that Gilbert was recorded under the surname of ‘Warring’ and listed amongst the convicts assigned to Emu Plains.

 

On the 29 December 1827 , Gilbert was given Ticket of Leave number 27/888 and allowed to remain in the district of Camden.  Annotations written across the Ticket of Leave Butt read ‘Obtained a Conditional Pardon no 482, dated 15 August 1835 ’ and ‘Altered for the district of Argyle with Colonial Secretaries Letter no 29/1177 dated 26 December 1829 ’.

 

On the 21st June 1841 Gilbert married Agnes Hammond, Agnes arrived when she was 18 years of age into Australia on the 30 October 1834 aboard the “David Scott”, one of the first Bounty Ships.  Gilbert and Agnes were married at St Andrew’s Scots Church in Sydney, NSW. 

 

Previous to this marriage Agnes had two children,  Joseph William Hammond born 1 September 1836 and Elizabeth Jane Hammond born 1 July 1839, both in Sydney .

 

After their marriage the couple resided at “Greenlands” on the Monaro, NSW.  In the 1849-Squatters List Government Gazette,  Gilbert Warren is listed No. 137  Greenland   area: 6400  cattle: 400.

 

Nine children were born to this couple:

Gilbert died August 1868, Agnes died 1879, both are buried in the Old Nimmitabel Cemetery.
