Darby Achurch
Nimmitabel 1940

Dear Ian,
I read your article in the Telegraph about the Back to Nimmitybelle Festival and reunion this weekend. Unfortunately I am unable to attend but I thought I would let you know that:

My grandfather Darby Achurch was the stationmaster at the railway station during the 1940's.

My uncle Riv Achurch was a noted cricket player in the district and his sister Norma (my mother) was a keen tennis player along with her mother Amy Achurch. My mum's best girlfriend was Molly Peters who married Murray Longhurst and they resided in Cooma until their recent deaths.

The Achurch family was well known in the community and I am sure there are older residents of Nimmitabel who would remember the family name.

Barry Achurch (my cousin) from Lithgow made the news in Nimmitabel when he came to work there for the DMR when the Brown Mountain reconstruction work was being done.

I have attached to this mail some photographs I have scanned. Most are from the Nimmitabel and surrounding area. The picture of the man on the swing is of Darby Achurch. Hope they are of interest to you.

Regards and good luck with the festival.
