Dr. WetherellCopied by Barbara Adams [davida8-at-bigpond.com] from Bega Gazette In 1876 the Tathra Road was described as dangerous. “It is considerable risk that a drive to the port can be undertaken. Ruts, holes and stumps abound” said the Bega Gazette The road at Jellat was boggy and impossible in wet weather. Earlier in 1868 according to the “Bega Gazette” it was possible to consult a Doctor in Bega, once a week, because DR. WETHERELL, of Candelo House, Kameruka, visited the town each week where he could be Consulted at Mr. Rixon’s Commercial Hotel. DR. WETHERELL travelled by horseback or possibly by horse buggy but with the communications so poor, a Dr. L.L SMITH had a postal service, and for a one pound fee offered a diagnosit and a cure for ailments springing from any secret vice, despondency, a weakness across the back and loins, or a certain feeling of nervousness..
