Notes: Henry Ingram and his wife Jane, together with 3 of their children, John aged nearly 5, Margaret aged nearly 3 1/2 and William aged only 18 months, departed from Portsmouth in England aboard the sailing ship "Woodbridge" on the 7th May 1838 and arrived at Port Jackson, Sydney on the 15th September 1838. The "Woodbridge" was a wooden ship of 516 tons and during this trip carried 270 Government emigrants to the colony. Following their arrival, Henry found work and was employed by William Klensendorlffe of Canberry Plain, which is now Yarralumla ACT. He was paid 25 pounds per year quarrying shale. During this period Henry and Jane and the children lived in a hut on the property which is now the site of Government House. In December 1839, the family moved to Bombala and arrived on Christmas Day 1839.The following is an extract from the Bombala Times dated September 14th 1988:-"They shared their Christmas dinner with a family named Garrity, who were shepherds on the Mahratta Estate, living in a hut at which is now known as Cunninghams Point; the only other hut in Bombala at this time was on the rise at the back of the Showground. The Ingrams contributed a goose and a bucket of potatoes towards the meal "Henry and Jane and their growing family settled at Maharatta, Only a few miles from Bombala, where Henry worked as a shepherd on Bombala Station for Captain Ronald Campbell. He worked for Campbell for nineteen years.

Notes: Mary Susan Douch married John Ingram in 1859 when she was 17. John was ten years her senior and together they had twelve children. The supreme matriarch and doyenne of the Ingram family, she is buried in the Ingram family cemetery at Tombong alongside her husband John. From what I have been told by the older members of the family, this woman had a will, strength and endurance that was unbreakable but a heart that was pure gold and filled with love. Not only did she raise her own 12 children, but she also raised four of her grandchildren due to the death of one of their parents and looked after her parents in their old age. She also nursed her husband's parents in their old age, both of whom died at her home at Tombong. In the diphtheria epidemic of the late 1880's she swabbed all the children's throats nightly with kerosene - not one died (of diphtheria or kerosene). After John died she would walk from Tombong to Winston Park almost daily up to the time of her own death (information from Robert Ingram, 2000).

One big porky was of having met with the Pope and having her rosary beads blessed. According to Eva she had a private audience.
Other memories include her telling John (Reginald John Kerr) the reason she had no children was that on her honeymoon, the crucifix above the bed fell on husband, Jack's head and that was a sign from God. Mary married Samuel Ahkin, son of George Ahkin or Ah Kin and Mary Ann Higgins, in 1905 in Nimmitabel, NSW.⁸⁴⁹ Samuel was born on May 4, 1873 in Delegate, NSW,⁸⁵⁰ died on February 23, 1961 in Sydney, NSW⁸⁵¹ at age 87, and was buried in Randwick, NSW. Another name for Samuel was Sam King.

SAMUEL (Sam) continued to drive the coaches up and down Brown Mountain as in 1907 he was uninjured when the coach overturned (mentioned in Perkins Papers). In the Cooma Express 20 Mar 1900 Samuel Ah Kin is mentioned as being in the Bushman's Contingent for South African War but there is no record to say that he ever went to the War. About 1908 Sam went to Sydney to live where he worked for an undertaker. He changed his name to KING; married Esther May White and they had two sons. Sam died in 1961 and is buried in Randwick cemetery.
