George Carter Descendants of George Carter First Generation1. George Carter, son of John Carter and Eileen McGregor, was born in 1811 in Berwickshire, Scotland and died on September 2, 1894 in Adaminaby, NSW1 at age 83.
Notes: George and Jane and their children migrated to Australia in 1853, from Scotland. • She immigrated to Australia with family on the vessel "Empire" in 1853. Margaret married James Holston, son of Ole Pedersen Olsen and Ellen Caroline Sorensdatter, on June 1, 1868 in Adaminaby, NSW.22 James was born on October 26, 1833 in Larvig, Norway, died on August 15, 1926 in "Braemar", near Adaminaby, NSW23 at age 92, and was buried in Old Adaminaby Cemetery, NSW Grave 234. Notes: James anglicised his surname from Olsen to Holston when he arrived in Australia aboard the sailing ship "Walter Scott" in 1852. He was 19 years of age. Before he migrated he was a sailor on a merchant ship and was at Sevastopol during the Crimean War. • Occupation: Merchant seaman, gold miner, farmer. 9 F i. At the time she lived on Appletree Island, near Greenwell Point and used to row across the river to come and help Mum. She and Bill later moved to a little home in Terara Rd., Terara. She was a lovely lady. Rosie had 2 boys from her first marriage, Walter and Bill. One of the boys was an ambulance officer in Nowra NSW. 23 M iii.
