June 17 1919,”Monaro Mercury” records death of Henry Bray of Cooma in Young Hospital, of pneumonic flu. He was on a visit to his son Herbert at Young. Aged 57. he lived at Cooma for about 40 years. Was a bricklayer and stonemason, and building contractor. Married Christina McPhie of Paupong  (and) had a family of 5 sons and 4 daughters (one deceased). (He) was an alderman for a few years.he built a large number of the buildings in Cooma and district (including Caledonian Stores (Solomon’s), Masonic Temple , (first section), Municipal Chambers, old School of Arts Billiard Room, Body’s wool store, Mack’s Store, Cnr. Bombala and Sharp Streets), together with many others and many cottages. Buried at Young Cof E. (His son ,Stanley,in Military forces, died from same complaint in Sydney 4 days later, aged about 20.)

1. Henry Thomas Bray, son of John Bray and Elizabeth Leake, was born in 1862 and died in 1919 in Young, NSW1 at age 57. Another name for Henry was Harry.

Henry married Christina McPhie on March 26, 1888 in Residence of Malcolm McPhie, Paupong, Dalgety, NSW.,2 daughter of Malcolm McPhie and Janet Robertson. Christina was born in 1864 in Nimmo near Lake Eucumbene, NSW3 and died in 1915 in Goulburn, NSW4 at age 51. Another name for Christina was Chris.

Notes: Christina's surname is spelt McPhee in the birth index

   F    i. Evelyn Mary Bray was born in 1889 in Cooma, NSW,5 died on September 21, 1982 in Strathfield, NSW at age 93, and was buried in Rookwood Crematorium, Sydney, NSW.

Evelyn married John Arthur Perkins in 1909 in St. Clement's Church of England, Marrickville, NSW.,6 son of Edward Perkins and Annie Connelly. John was born in 1878 in Gocup near Tumut, NSW,7 died on July 13, 1954 in Manly, NSW8 at age 76, and was buried in Northern Suburbs Crematorium, North Ryde, NSW.

   M    ii. Herbert Henry Bray was born in 1890 in Cooma, NSW9 and died in 1942 in Young, NSW10 at age 52.

Herbert married Eliza M Black in 1914 in Young, NSW.,11 daughter of David Black and Sarah L R Cribbs. Eliza was born in 1892 in Young, NSW.12

   F    iii. Janet R Bray was born in 1892 in Cooma, NSW.13

   F    iv. Margaret Bray was born in 1895 in Cooma, NSW14 and died in 1895 in Cooma, NSW.15

   M    v. John S Bray was born in 1896 in Cooma, NSW16 and died in 1919 in Randwick, NSW17 at age 23.

   M    vi. William M Bray was born in 1898 in Cooma, NSW.18

   2 M    vii. Leslie James Bray was born in 1901 in Cooma, NSW19 and died on July 24, 1959 in Heidleberg, VIC at age 58.

   F    viii. Edna M Bray was born in 1903 in Cooma, NSW.20

2. Leslie James Bray (Henry Thomas1) was born in 1901 in Cooma, NSW19 and died on July 24, 1959 in Heidleberg, VIC at age 58.

Leslie married Doris Maude Wade on May 30, 1929 in Melbourne, VIC.21

Marriage Notes: Leslie had moved to Melbourne, he was residing at Nicholson St Fitzroy at the time, having followed Dorothy Maude Wade from Manly to Melbourne.

The child from this marriage was:

   M    i. Clive Leslie John Bray was born on January 12, 1930 in Box Hill, VIC and died on March 10, 2003 at age 73.

Clive married Jill.
