Bombala Times: 20 June 1924 " Mr Thomas Oliver died in Sydney on Sunday last. He arrived in the colony 60 years ago, aged 19. He came to Little Plain and was employed by Mr Nicholson. He selected Green Creek near Delegate. He leaves a widow, daughters - Mrs D. Godber, Bonang; Mrs Phil Robinson Orbost; Mrs Monroe, Sydney; sons - Finley and Thomas Delegate, two sisters also living- Mrs R. Sivewright and Mrs G. Ivell."
Thomas died 30 June 1917 Skeleton Street, Leichardt NSW. He was buried at Rookwood Presbyterian Cemetery. His wife, Elizabeth was the daughter of Thomas Robinson Martin and Hannah Mutch. She was born 23 February 1862 at Mt Cooper and died 26 May 1918 at Leichardt NSW. Thomas and Elizabeth were buried in the Presbyterian Portion of the Rookwood Cemetery, Section 5D Row 5 Grave 198. They married at Delegate on the 28 April 1880 Thomas and Elizabeth's children were all born at Glendouglas near Bombala. THE OLIVER FAMILY - A Brief Background
The following members of the family arrived in NSW aboard the "Bee" in 1856. Adam Oliver -aged 50 Elizabeth Oliver - aged 48 Mary Oliver- aged 10 Thomas Oliver - aged 17 Adam married Elizabeth Cumming on the 20 December 1826. Elizabeth was the daughter of William Cumming and Janet Boag. Children born to Adam and Elizabeth were: Adam b. c1827 married Janet Mabon 26 January 1855 at Rewcastle Bedrule Manse Roxborough. (This Adam and his wife were also aboard the "Bee.") William b. 1828 married Jane Inglis 26 July 1852 Hawick Scotland Janet b. 1836 married James Thom Thomas b. 1838 Jedburgh married Elizabeth Martin 1880 Mary b. 1844 Roxborough married Thomas Moore 1861
The first of the family to come to NSW were William and his wife Jane Inglis who arrived in 1852 on the Humboldt. It is believed they helped finance the passage for the remainder of the family. Janet born 1836 was not listed as being with either of these families when they arrived. According to Shipping Information, a Janet Oliver did arrive in NSW aboard the Nepaul in 1855 aged 19 years.
