Notes: 1924 OBITUARY
MR. GEORGE BOON.
Keen regret was felt throughout the district when the news filtered through that Mr. George Boon had passed away at Cowra on Sunday morning, after an illness extending over several weeks. After selling out his property at Wagragobilly about four months ago, Mr. Boon and his wife and younger members of his family settled at Cowra and three weeks ago he was stricken with a serious internal illness from which he never rallied.
The late Mr. Boon was a son of the late Nathaniel Boon and was a native of Gundagai . Deceased was a thrifty, hard-working man, who was admired for his straight forward habits, and it is safe to say there were few better judges of stock to be found in the district. He was also a great horseman in his day. For many years he was a prominent member of the Gundagai Racing Club and P. & A. Society. Like many other men of his time, deceased had not the educational opportunities that are enjoyed to-day, but he possessed a wonderful mental talent that stood to him in his dealing through life and his witticisms and original expressions will live after him . Few men could effect a transaction better than George Boon, who was popular with all who knew him. He had several thrilling escapes from death by accident in 60 odd years of life as a bushman and on one occasion had is body severely shattered by a gunshot, from which he made a remarka ble recovery.
The late Mr. Boon who was 64 years of age at the time of his death, selected as his partner in life Miss Jones, daughter of the late Thomas Jones, and his widow and a family of 11 sons and two daughters survive him, viz; -Messrs. George Herbert, Percy Bruce, Thomas Norman, James Frederick, Reginald, Leslie, John, Leo, and Arthur Boon (sons), and Mrs. D. Withers and Mrs. Aub. Norton (daughters). Deceased's brother Alfred died only about a month ago; but two sisters and three step-sisters survive him.

OBITUARY - MR. AUBREY JAMES NAUGHTON
When on Friday morning last, death claimed Mr. Aubrey James Naughton , there passed away in the Gundagai District Hospital, one of the best known graziers in this district - a man who, from small beginnings, and by dent of perseverance and hard work, had become one of the biggest graziers in this Shire.
The late Aub. Naughton came to the Gundagai District about thirty years ago. His capacity for work was soon in evidence, and after being successful as a share farmer in a maize growing venture he purchased the Wagragobilly property from P. Mulqueeney. An astute judge of sheep and cattle, deceased quickly won recognition as a dealer and as breeder of good quality wool and beef. As the years went by he expanded his property, which to-day is one of the best in the district.
The late Mr. Naughton worked hard during his lifetime, and finally his health caused some concern to his family. Some little time ago he consulted a specialist, and was advised to take things easily. But to a man who had always been active and keen , and one who loved nothing better than to work on his property amongst his stock, it was hard to keep strictly to doctor's orders. On Wednesday of last week deceased suffered a stoke, and was admitted to hospital in a critical condition, and on Friday morning his life closed.
The late Aubrey Naughton was 60 years of age at the time of his demise and leaves a widow and three children - two girls, Elsie and Clare, and one son, Herbert. One brother Hughie (Sydney) and one sister, Lilly (Sydney) also survive . Living in the Gilmore district are three step-brothers Thomas, Victor and James Naughton.

Deceased was associated with the P and A Society, and in addition was at any time guide, philosopher and friend to the Brungle Cricket Club. Notes: Gundagai Independent. - Tuesday 10 May 1990.
Sudden Death of Audie Naughton.
Gudagai was saddened on Tuesday by the sudden death of Herbert Murray ('Audie') Naughton of "Tarraweena". Audie aged 67 years, died at his home on Tuesday morning.
Although he had some health problems in recent months, his death came unexpectedly.
Audie is survived by his wife , Heather, and children Marcia (Mrs. John Bowler, New Zealand), Audie and Murray. His grandchildren Justin, Natalie, Chris and Andrew Naught on and Catherine, Annie and Cushla Bowler are left to mourn a greatly loved and loving grandfather.
Audie was the last of his generation. He was predeceased by sisters Elsie and Clare, and brother, Aubrey James ('Reedy')
Audie was born at Gundagai, the son of Aubrey and Annie Naughton. His early schooling was at the old Wagragobill School and later he attended St. Patrick's College, Goulburn and St. Ignatius' College, Riverview.
Upon leaving school he went straight onto the land. Audie was a very successful grazier, expanding his property "Tarraweena" in the Tumut Valley, and being a knowledgeable cattle breeder. He took great pride in his herd and was something of an innovator, as in his introduction of Belted Galloways to the district. In his younger days he was a keen sportsman.
He had a fair turn of speed, and played on the wing for Gundagai Rugby League, representing in the hardest of all country football, the Maher Cup.
A big man, he was an awesome sight in full flight along the touch line. Audie also loved his cricket, playing with Brungle in the Hogan Cup competition; at one stage raising his own team, Tarraweena; and representing Gundagai district. He was an opening bowler of some pace, and a more than competent batsman.
But perhaps his greatest sporting love was the turf. Audie bred and raced many fine horses. He bred the prolific winner, Tarraweena, a winner of the Gundagai Cup and over thirty other races . He also bred and raced the Sydney winner Nilo Road, and had great success with the progeny of his mare Lady Nilo, and the stallion Gypsy Tide. Captain Royal, Soft and Rich and Justin Street were some of the other horses which Audie raced with success.
He was a keen racegoer, attending the major carnivals in Sydney, and enjoying the challenge of a tilt at the bookmakers. Audie was a popular figure, a man with very strong family ties, devoted to his home, his children and grandchildren, a loving husband and father and grandfather.
He was always good company, with an understated but always ready sense of humour, and took great joy in the company of his mates. He served for a term as a Councillor of the Shire of Gundagai, and was for many years actively involved with school organisations.
In recent years he had been a great supporter of St. Patrick' s School, Gundagai, which his grandchildren attended.
The funeral will take place tomorrow (Friday). Requiem Mass at 12 noon in St. Patrick's Church, Gundagai, will be followed by internment in the family plot at the Wagragobilly cemetery.
