News and Notes
Mr. Alexander Pauline died on Wednesday morning in his 78th year. He had previously been very ill, but lately he was much better and the night before he died there was nothing to indicate that the end was so near. But in the night he complained of a pain in the chest and while Mrs. Pauline was taking measures to give him relief he passed away. He was buried in the Church of England cemetery on Thursday afternoon in the presence of many friends and relatives, the burial service being read by the Rev. Mr. Broadfoot. Mr. Pauline was a native of Scotland and came to this State when a young man. He was at Eden and Pambula for a time and then came to Monaro, where he followed the occupation of carpenter for over fifty years. Here he married Miss Hatton, and of the issue of that marriage four sons and four daughters are still living, including Mrs. M. Kilkenny and Mr. Reg. Pauline of this town. Mrs. Pauline has been the recipient of many messages of sympathy at the loss of her husband.

News and Notes
After an illness extending over some months Mr. Michael Kilkenny lapsed into unconsciousness last weekend, and passed away peacefully on Christmas morning. The interment took place yesterday afternoon in the Church of England cemetery in the presence of a large concourse of relatives and friends. The church burial service was read by the Rev. S. Broadfoot and that of the Lodge (Grand United Order) by Bro. Carl Elton, the chief mourners being the widow, his three sons (Michael, William and Harold), and only brother Frank, of Gosford. Mr. Kilkenny was born at Bendigo 72 years ago. He followed farming pursuits in his early life and was an expert shearer in the days before machines came into use. He was also a good athlete, and figured prominently on many a Victorian running ground. On one occasion he rode on horseback from Wanaaring to Echuca, a distance of 550 miles, in 12 days. He arrived at his home at Echuca on Christmas morning, and next day won the principal foot-race at the big Echuca sports meeting. He found his resting place at Bombala some 30 years ago, and here he married and settled down. The community will miss his cheery voice and his genuine good nature, and the family will receive sympathy at the loss of a devoted husband and father.
