First Generation

1. James Dunn, son of Robert Dunn and Jane Craig, was born in 1799 in Faughanvale, Londonderry, Ireland, died in 1900 in Randwick, NSW at age 101, and was buried in Ballalaba near Braidwood, NSW.

Notes: James Dunn was born in 1799 in Faughanvale, Londonderry, Ireland. He made his way to Australia ahead of his family as an unassisted immigrant on board the Shamrock in 1852.

His wife Margaret and children travelled a year later on board the Talavera. His brother Robert and his family also travelled with Margaret and the children.

After reuniting in Sydney, the families of James and Robert moved to Braidwood around 1853. The choice of this location was quite likely because their sister Jane had been residing in the area since 1843.

In the register of applications under the Free Selection Act 1861 James owned 40 acres at Julia's Flats.
James was also a digger at Majors Creek. In the 1869 electoral roll his residence is shown as, Forest Flat, Ballalaba. Braidwood

James is said to have lived in three centuries. He received a letter from the Queen on his 100th Birthday at which time he was living with his daughter, Sarah Bourne in Randwick . It is believed he died in Randwick, in 1900 although there is not apparent record of this in the NSW Register of Deaths.

It is also believed (but not confirmed) that he is buried in Ballalaba, Braidwood.

One big porky was of having met with the Pope and having her rosary beads blessed. According to Eva she had a private audience.
Other memories include her telling John (Reginald John Kerr) the reason she had no children was that on her honeymoon, the crucifix above the bed fell on husband, Jack's head and that was a sign from God. In her latter years (late 80's) she thought she was Queen Victoria and waved royally to people as she drove her little red Mini Minor around Delegate. (by: Pam McAllister)
