Notes: A Notice that appeared in the New South Wales Police Gazette under the heading of Ships Deserters 24 Jun 1863 for the ship Bucton Castle. Henry Cousemacker, A.B.5ft 9in high Dark Complextion and hair, Black eyes 3 pound reward.
It should be noted that from 1870 to 1879 all electral rolls had spelt his name CASHAMAKA and Grevilles Offical Post Office Directories had his name Spelt COUSEMAKER in the Electol Rolls of 1882 it is Spelt COUSEMAKER and in 1903 it is spelt COUSEMACKER the most popular spelling to date

Notes: Henry jnr. was a blacksmith in Pambula near the Pambula Jockey Club stables at the top of Quondola Street. He was a polio victim and had a crippled leg. He also ran a small dairy which kept the Maternity Hospital in Pambula Beach Road in milk. The hospital was run by henry's wife, Lillian and was incorporated into the Pambula District Hospital in 1920 after it was erected near the Community House in 1917 by Joe Koeber.

Louise married James Orchard Sclater, son of Charles Sclater, on March 18, 1888 in Eden, NSW.30 James was born on October 20, 1856 in Dartsmouth, England and died on September 30, 1932 in Stanmore, NSW31 at age 75.

Notes: Captain Sclater was a mariner in England before emigrating in the 1880's to Australia. He was captain of the Drogher "Alexander Berry" in Merimbula transporting produce from the Maizena Works and the district to Sydney. On 24 December, 1909 he was appointed 2nd Mate of the I.S.N.Company Ship "Eden" and then Chief Officer of "Merimbula" until 29 February, 1913 when he was appointed Skipper ofthe I.S.N. Company's "Bermagui". Moved to Sydney before 1919.
Louisa and James lived in a little cottage between the Merimbula Hotel and Maizena Works in Merimbula before moving to Sydney between 1913 and 1919. They had 12 children between 1888 and 1911.

The cause of his death was Chronic Bronchitis and Myocardial Degeneration. Another name for Joseph was Old Joe.

In 1921 Joseph brought 1 ROD 15 1/2 Perches of land with a house in Market Street Merimbula.High and Dry and close to the shopping centre. Joseph, Alice and their family lived there in a 5 room cottage, with bathroom and detached Laundrey. In his will he left his estate to his children in equal shares with the wish that the house not be sold without the consent of all the children, but that it be held in trust and made available for occupation or rental by all or any of the children. The value of each childs estate was 274.00 Pounds.

Not only did she do this she took on four of her brother Bertie's children after his wife died at a young Age, She the took on Bertie,s elderst son at a later date.In order to Clothe and feed the family she kept house for the family next door, moving her family into their house. There were 11 people in the house and she cooked and cleaned and washed for them all. The only help she had was from the Smith Family who brought a tea chest full of gifts for the children at Xmas.

Dorothy married Harry George Jackson in Tasmania. Harry died in 1982.

Thomas ( known as Tom) married Mary Cousemacker in Bega in 1898 and settled in Merimbula area as a butcher for some years. His four elderst children were born there but he retuned to Nimmitabel about 1905 and had a butcher"s shop there for many years before going to Sydney in the 1930s to live in Kogarah.
J.W.Evans in his book "Nimitybelle-70 years of memories" writes about Tom and his butchers shop:This shop was owned and operated by Tom King. The name was originally Ah-Kin. When the familey left school he considered the chinese name might make it difficult for them getting Goverment jobs, so changed the name by deed-poll. The building between the shop and the Bakehouse was his residence. The shop and residence were demolished about 1965. King and sons did all their own slaughtering. The slaughter house was on the south side of the Springfield road some five six hundred yards over the railway line. The butcher boy came around on horseback and took your orders on Friday Afternoon. The orders were cut, wrapped,and delivered on Saturday morning. Tom died in 1954 and is buried in Woronora Cemetery.
