Signed Thomas Connell
Martin Keogh, a prisoner serving 6 years for cattle stealing wrote to Henry Parkes, reporting on Tom Connell. Tom was supposed to have said that nothing would please the local police more than the murder of the Specials. The police informed Clarke of the arrival of the Specials. He also said the Clarke gang had a place of hiding, a ravine, about 10-12 miles from Mr Haslington's, a squatter. They procure their rations from him. There are three tracks leading into the ravine but the tracks are not known by anyone.
There is also another refuge between the above place and Twofold Bay at a cattle station. I think the owner is Linstock of Gundaroo. No hut or house within 25 miles.
There was a person names Flynn, a volunteer at one time after Clarke. Flynn's sister Big Biddy, was married to a man by the name of Askow. Connell's brother (Pat) used to cohabit with Big Biddy.
A publican by the name of Polluck, near Foxlow, harbours the bushrangers for short periods of time. This place is heavily populated and not so safe.
The police were the first to inform the bushrangers of the arrival of the Specials. Nothing would please the police more than the murder of Mr Carroll and party.
As well Clarke's best friend in the district is Honest John. A good deal of money has passed between Clarke and Honest John.
From Sir Henry Parkes Correspondence Vol 2- A872- CY Reel 24 Mitchell Library pp13-14.
Tom does not believe the Clarkes had anything to do with the shooting of the Specials. They are both cowards.
Tom thinks his brother Michael is connected with the shootings of the Specials. Tom believes that Michael is the reason all the family turned out bushrangers. Michael would buy the proceeds of a robbery and then give information to the police against his own brothers.
Tom knew his brother's wife intimately before she was married but since the marriage they have not been good friends, as Tom thought she would have married himself.

Raised as a Bradley and Died a Bradley
When Thomas Connell returned home from gaol to find three extra children, he shipped them out. They possibly went to live with one of their uncles but extra mouths to feed meant they couldn't stay there.
William was sent to live with Pat Kain. Old Mrs Kain was very kind to him, but pat was nasty. When he was 10 or 12 years old he was given to the Daniels family (or a name like that) on a big sheep property near Captain's Flat or Bungendore or Queanbeyan. Possibly a relative of Mrs Kain. He had to do a man's work and break in horses, milk cows, no schooling. He could not read or write.
Later he ran away to the Jingera. This is where he met Emma Curtis.
William married Emma Curtis, daughter of Henry Curtis and Matilda Jane Hans, on March 7, 1899 in St. Stephen's Church, Majors Creek, NSW.283 Emma was born in 1868 in Majors Creek, NSW,284 died on November 22, 1940 in Braidwood, NSW285 at age 72, and was buried on November 23, 1940 in Braidwood Cemetery, NSW.
