Sarah married John Joseph Pleydell on May 20, 1867 in Maharatta Station near Bombala, NSW.31 John was born in September 1848 in Maharatta near Bombala, NSW,32 died on July 12, 1925 in Prince Alfred Hospital, Melbourne, VIC at age 76, and was buried in Brighton Cemtery, Melbourne, VIC. Another name for John was Joseph John.

In 1884, Mr.John Pleydell, his wife, five boys and five girls, left Delegate for the Snowy River. The party consisted of the family, other horsemen and 25 horses, including pack horses. Each girl rode behind a man, hanging onto the strap around his waist. The journey took 5 or 6 days. There was no road. They cut a track as they went. At night, they camped by creeks except for one right at Reeds. They rode down Forest Road past the Station House and the whole town turned out to welcome them. They said - "Now , we'll get a school". (At this time there was only Mr. Ballantine's private school). At first the Pleydells lived in an old bark hut at the foot of Burn's Cutting. Then Mr.Pleydell built a cottage at the back of the Commonwealth Hotel. Mr. John Pleydell was in charge of the drainage of the Bete Bolong Flats. John collected dog registration fees for the Orbost Shire Council toward the end of his life. 'Delegate Argus' 21 May 1914 - The Bendoc correspondent noted that Mr John Pleydell of Orbost had been in in the district for a week collecting a dog tax, which was 5/- a head and deeply resented. Then again from the 'Delegate Argus' 17 June 1915 which reported, "The old gentleman felt the cold here most severely. In the course of an interesting chat with Mr Pleydell, he told me that he has 51 grandchildren, and that he has one son and two grandsons serving at the front. Since his last visit, he has lost his wife and one grandchild through death, and has been afflicted with many other troubles in the way illness in the family.
From the 'Bombala Times' 31 July 1925: - A Monaro and Gippsland pioneer passed away in Prince Alfred Hospital, Melbourne, on the 12th instant, in the person of Mr J J Pleydell. He was born at Maharatta, near Bombala, in 1848 and, in 1855, left Monaro for Gippsland, where he has resided ever since. The trip from Bombala to Orbost was made by pack horse, there being only a track from Bonang, the trip taking 5 days . The family living consists of five sons and six daughters, 57 grand children and 10 great grandchildren.
