1. Arthur Israel Joseph, son of Nathan Joseph and Sarah Moses, was born on July 21, 1847 in NSW and died on December 24, 1900 in England at age 53.

ARTHUR ISRAEL JOSEPH
of Maharatta, is the second son of Moses Joseph, well known as one of the oldest merchants of Sydney, and was born in Sydney in 1845. He accompanied his father to England, attended at the Edmonton School under Mr. H.N. Solomons, and completed his education at the University School in Gower street London He entered an insurance society's office,stayed there for three years and then came out to New Zealand with his uncle. After remaining in that country for a few months, he proceeded to and settled on his father's estate in Maharatta, where he at present lives. For ten years he remained there before accepting a position in the bank of NSW in which he stayed for a period of seven years. Yielding to his father's desire he resumed the management of the Maharatta property in 1885. He found that so much money had been spent on the estate, that to keep on the old style, with sheep and cattle, it would not pay interest on the capital. He determined to turn Maharatta into a large dairy farm for the manufacture of cheese and the preparing of other products. This necessitated the outlay of a small fortune, but the results, however have exceeded expectations, and the scheme bids fair to pay Mr. Joseph a handsome return. In 1874 Mr. A.I. Joseph married Katherine, the fifth daughter of the late Elias Moses of Sydney.

Arthur married Catherine Jacoba Moses in 1874 in Sydney, NSW. Catherine was born in 1856 in Melbourne, VIC and died in 1919 in Randwick, NSW at age 63. Another name for Catherine was Kate.

   F    i. Rachel Alice Joseph was born in 1875 in Bombala, NSW.¹

Rachel married Jack Guggenheimer.

   F    ii. Rosetta Caroline Joseph was born in 1877 in Paddington, NSW.²

Rosetta married Reginald Moses Davis.

   M    iii. Moses Sydney Joseph was born in 1878 in Sydney, NSW³ and died in 1963 in Chatswood, NSW⁴ at age 85.

   M    iv. Elias Frederick Joseph was born in 1880 in Sydney, NSW⁵ and died in 1952 in Petersham, NSW⁶ at age 72.

   F    v. Florence Adele Joseph was born in 1881 in Sydney, NSW.⁷

   F    vi. Miriam L. Joseph was born in 1884 in Sydney, NSW.⁸

   M    vii. Horace M. Joseph was born in 1886 in Sydney, NSW.⁹

   M    viii. Jerrold Nathan Joseph was born in 1891 in Sydney, NSW¹⁰ and died in 1937 in Randwick, NSW¹¹ at age 46.

   M    ix. Barnett Joseph died in 1939 in Ashfield, NSW.¹²
