James Constance has been very frustrating to research as some facts have been very inconsistent.
Trying to calculate his year of birth using ages as stated at births of children (I have 2 birth certificate transcriptions), marriages and death gives a range from 1829 to 1841 - 12 years.
He married three times. On Church records he gives a different name for his Mother each time - and none of these matches the two names I have found from English sources.
The date on his Death Certificate and also newspaper obituary is different to the date on his headstone.
So - a year of birth lasting 12 years, 5 mothers and died twice.
James spent approx 3 years 'at sea' and in Holland prior to coming to Australia age 19 (entrenched in Family Tradition). He landed in Sydney where he was involved in the salvage operations on the 'Dunbar' which sank off Sydney Heads 20 Aug 1857.
Shortly after he came to the Monaro and was employed at Woolway, before selecting/purchasing Cootralantra.
