Notes: Arthur's first job was running the mail from Delegate to Bombala in his early teens. He did it on horse back rain, hail, snow or sunshine. Many a time he had to row a boat across the Little Plain River to get the mail through. Once his horse went lame, so he walked his horse into Delegate and because the mail was late, he was reprimmanded. He then went to work for Mr John Campbell at "Ambyne" at Tingaringie about 1877. After the marriage of Mr Campbell, he rented "Ambyne" for a number of years. He was then able to buy "Ambyne" bit by bit until he had bought the entire Campbell property, about 640 acres.
He subsequently added other holdings and with hard work and skillful management, became a very successful grazier and fine wool grower. In 1905 a very big bushfire came through and burnt the woolshed down. (Mr Graham Collins had just finished his shearing that day and lost his entire wool clip and most of his sheep in the fire). Arthur lost around 600 sheep and 3 horses.
Arthur also had property at Browns Camp called "Karach".
